Obsessed? Yeah, just a little. Anyway, I thought I'd try my hand at drawing sprites similar to what you might find in an NES game. The first is Sunny in four colors, the maximum number allowed in an NES sprite without stacking. The second is Sunny in her classic wardrobe, with a touch of purple added for the shirt. Finally, there's Sunny as I recently drew her, with blue jeans and a jacket.
Now I want you to go back and look at some of the sprites used in actual Nintendo games. It's pretty amazing how much detail the artists were able to cram into such a small space, wasn't it? Hopefully once I'm finished with the art exercises in Right Side, I'll be able to go back and make a Sunny sprite that approaches the quality of classic NES artwork.
