And There She Was

I woke up in the middle of the night. My eyes gradually adjusted to the surrounding darkness as I steadily sat

up. This was a common occurrence. Every single night I'd get woken up about the same time, and I always

made sure my phone was in reach so I could use its screen for light. I patted for it beside me, and pressed it

on.

And there she was.

As still as a statue, her ghostly pink eyes staring straight at me, she lay across the foot of my bed. Her body

was long, outstretched like a noodle, and curled up around one of the forgotten jackets I tended to leave

laying about.

“I missed you.”

Her voice was soft, like a tissue paper landing on a wooden floor. Her snout pressed against my chest as her

noodly neck twisted to orientate herself towards me. I sighed. I couldn't help but pat that snoot.

“I miss you too,” I replied.

I wrapped my arms around her neck, careful of her horns, and she gave me a lick on the cheek.

It was only in these moments I could see her, feel her, have her so close to me that it felt like she was real.

My eyes scanned over her form, as I brushed the soft fluff that traced the top of her body. She was an awfully

fluffy creature, though it contrasted with her cool, slick scales. I loved touching her, and I think she liked it

as well.

I kissed her nose, and she kissed my lips with her great jaws, and breathed onto my face with such a

coolness that my hairs stood on end. We enjoyed that moment, as our bodies warmed up to each other, and I

held on to her tighter.

But it was already time.

I could see her before me, the end of her fading so quickly that it looked like she was dissolving. And she

was.

Disappearing into the darkness, with only my phone light still revealing her presence to me. I held onto her

face as long as I could, and saw a tear had fallen onto her cheek.

“Don't cry.”

Her voice was unusually soft, like a ghost's might be.

And she was.

Theme Song: DNKL - Wolfhour

A single page short story (which I guess makes it prose?) gift for my friend nikolaiwarsmith  nikolaiwarsmith

Something a lil abstract with a hint of sad. Cause that's what I write about late at night lol.

I'd do this for $3. With a thumbnail art. I even choose a theme for it. I DO WRITING COMMISSIONS TOO lol.
