Kuua was a hyena born into his clan with albinism, due to being a product of inbreeding. His parents are relatives, made to reproduce after an arranged marriage with each other, dying shortly after the birth of Kuua. Kuua himself is often blamed for natural disasters he has no control over. He is the victim of an attack fueled by ignorance which cost him his ear. Being the patriarch of the Mahali tribe, he keeps females in his clan as subordinates and never has a co-leader of any kind, especially females out of fear of losing his title as patriarch, due to the high status the females in their society have.
